Part two of Welcome To Withington. Sorry, no Hollywood stars in this story though.
Each week a new player arrived and joined the team. We decided to switch away from Power League to play in a 7-a-side league.
We teamed up with Manchester homeless charity Embassy Village to promote their logo on our pink shirts for free. Embassy Village is doing for the homeless what we are doing for the footballers.
We knew about the historic Manchester Corinthians women’s team of Fog Lane Park. What a moment for Withington to get permission to play at Fog Lane Park. To follow in the Corinthians footsteps and return women’s football to the park is a wonderful feeling for the players.
We joined the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League to play on Sundays at 2pm with Fog Lane Park as our home. The only problem was that the changing rooms on Fog Lane Park are out of use. Fortunately we found a church across the road so we convinced them to let us use their hall on match days.
What has helped the cause of Withington in park is the arrival of a blue plaque, a lectern and 2 murals. In October there was a special event featuring the Mayor Andy Burnham and the former players.
Withington has been using the murals for team photos.
