Google IO 2026 Roundup

Google I/O 2026 pivoted the company’s focus from passive AI assistants to “agentic AI” that can independently navigate complex workflows across devices, alongside the introduction of the Gemini 3.5 model series, major Search upgrades, and Samsung’s new XR smart glasses.

Key announcements included:

Gemini 3.5 & Antigravity: Google launched the Gemini 3.5 model family (led by Gemini 3.5 Flash) and upgraded Antigravity, its agent-first development platform. The new models operate four times faster than previous versions and can handle complex, multi-step workflows across applications.

Reimagined AI Search: Search received its biggest upgrade in over 25 years. The new intelligent search box allows users to input queries across modalities (text, images, files, videos, or active Chrome tabs), utilizing AI agents to browse and synthesize answers. [1, 2]

Developer Updates: Updates were heavily geared toward “vibe coding” and agent development, with native Android support in Google AI Studio and managed agents in the Gemini API.
